CNC machine and machinery finance for UK manufacturers

Reviewed by Luca Scalzo, Director, WFYA Limited · Last reviewed

CNC machine finance lets a manufacturer or engineering business spread the cost of a new or used machine tool over a fixed term, so the machine can start producing parts and paying for itself straight away. It is usually arranged as hire purchase, where the business owns the machine at the end, or as a lease.

We Finance Your Asset is a credit broker, not a lender. We introduce machinery finance applications from UK businesses to lenders on our panel.

Who can apply for CNC machine finance?

    • Precision engineering and subcontract machining companies.
    • Fabrication, sheet metal, woodworking and plastics businesses.
    • Manufacturers adding capacity for a new contract.
    • Workshops replacing older manual machines with CNC.

      Decision and payment

If a lender approves, you sign the agreement with the lender and the lender pays the supplier.

What can CNC machine finance cover?

    • CNC lathes, turning centres and machining centres.
    • CNC milling machines and routers.
    • Laser, plasma and waterjet cutting machines.
    • Press brakes, guillotines and fabrication equipment.
    • Grinding, EDM and inspection equipment.
    • New and used machines from manufacturers and dealers.

What documents do you need to apply for CNC machine finance?

Our application form asks for the information lenders need first, so it helps to have it ready:

    • Your company name and Companies House number.
    • The director's contact details, date of birth and home address history.
    • Details of the asset: what it is, its price, the supplier and, for vehicles, the registration and mileage if known.
    • The deposit you plan to put in and the term you would like.
    • Your last three months of business bank statements, which you can upload with the form.

Lenders may then ask for more, such as recent accounts, proof of identity or the supplier's invoice, depending on the amount and your business.

How long does CNC machine finance take?

It depends on the asset, the lender and how quickly the documents arrive. The lender then makes its own decision; straightforward applications with complete documents move fastest, while larger amounts, used or specialist assets and newer businesses can take longer.

What deposit and term should you expect for CNC machine finance?

Most agreements involve some upfront payment, and the amount depends on the lender, the asset and your business. Newer businesses, older or specialist assets and larger amounts may need a bigger deposit. Terms are usually set by the expected working life of the asset. We will tell you what the lenders on our panel ask for once we know your details. We do not quote interest rates on this website because the cost depends on your circumstances: see what affects the cost of asset finance.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I finance a used CNC machine?

Yes. Lenders finance used machine tools, looking at the make, age, condition and resale value. Machines from well known manufacturers are usually easier to finance.

Is it better to lease or buy a CNC machine on hire purchase?

Hire purchase suits businesses that plan to keep the machine for many years and want to own it. Leasing can suit businesses that upgrade technology regularly. Tax treatment differs, including capital allowances, so ask your accountant.

Can capital allowances apply to a financed machine?

With hire purchase, the business is usually treated as the owner for tax purposes and may be able to claim capital allowances such as the Annual Investment Allowance. Rules change, so check the current position with your accountant.

How long can the agreement run?

Terms for machine tools often run for several years, depending on the machine's expected working life and the lender. We will tell you what is available for your machine.
